A Saint George by Nikolaus Schit
The INHA study program to establish a repertory of Germanic paintings in French collections (1370-1550) has identified the author of the anonymous Saint George slaying the dragon in the Musée d'Orléans: it is a painting by Nikolaus Schit! This work, once considered a representation of Joan of Arc, even inspired Schiller to write his drama Joan of Arc in 1800. Michaela Schedl, a specialist in the artist, made this identification, first on the basis of a photo, then confirmed her intuition by coming to Orléans to study the work.
