Cartel

Bearing the inscription 1851, this terracotta is a sketch for the ivory sculpture sold by Triqueti to Sir Ivor Guerst in 1859, with a bronze seat, polished griotte marble plinth and ebony base. The emphasis given to the scene takes on a profoundly dramatic aspect through this interplay of materials.

Provenance

By descent from the artist to Blanche de Triqueti wife Lee Childe, daughter of the artist, 1874.
Gift of Edward Lee Childe, the artist's son-in-law, to the Musée des Beaux-Arts d'Orléans, 1886.
